Band of Brothers

America is a poorer place today.  We are losing the last of our WWII warriors.  May they never be forgotten.

William “Wild Bill” Guarnere, one of the World War II veterans whose exploits were dramatized in the TV miniseries “Band of Brothers,” has died. He was 90.

His good friend to the end, “Babe” Heffron, passed away last December.

To the end, Edward James “Babe” Heffron insisted that he wasn’t a hero, that his service in World War II was simply part of an obligation to serve his country in a time of need.

William Guarnere Jr. said his father and Heffron met during the war and remained friends until Heffron died in December.

“Now they’re together again,” the son said.

America is, indeed, poorer today.  Will we honor their sacrifices when the time comes?

This is sad, I’m not sure how many, if any, are left but we are losing WWII Veterans at a horrendous rate. I have the DVD set of the series Band of Brothers and never tire of watching the interviews of the surviving members.

They are the epitome of the “Warrior” class of America. Thank God for them.

Amen. As his son said, he lived a long and full life. That is an understatement. We owe them everything.
