Boom Hypothesis of Modern History

05 Feb

Thanks to a fellow blogger, I have found a new book to read.

Where the author is quoted as saying things like this.

“You can get everything of a material nature you want, more than you ever dreamed of having, from gold and silver to furs and foods, and in any quantity you want, provided only that you are willing to venture and work.”

There’s that word, again.

He goes on to say,

“And something you never had within your historical memory will come to you as a byproduct, and that is an extraordinary degree of freedom.”

Did you catch that? Freedom. Personal freedom and democratic forms of government were one of the many fruits of the Great Frontier.

Written by University of Texas historian, Walter Prescott Webb (1888–1963), it’s an explanation of his Boom Hypothesis of Modern History.   The Great Frontier, is the title of the book, and I can’t wait to read it in its entirety.

In the attached synopsis, Webb’s hypothesis explains that this 400 year boom has been over for decades now.  Going together with my previous post of no money in our future, he explains what is to come for us all.  However, I have a pretty good idea what it will be.  The Metropolis is dead, and it will be the Metropolis that will drag us down with it.  IF we let it.  The Kenyan has to be their representative, making sure that we do.

Just too interesting to not read.

Read more here, and see if you may be interested as well.  If you’re a history buff, or just curious, I am sure you will.

Special thanks to the fellow who shared this with me.  And you know who you are.  🙂

I added it to my amazon wishlist. Google books has the first 80 or so pages available for free as a teaser.

I have just bought this from Amazon. This will be one of my main history books that will share a spot with the few volumes of Toynbee’s History Of The World.

Thanks Soffitrat. This is the first time I have heard of this individual, but what do you expect. The public education system will NEVER push history like this. Not when they want to rewrite history to suit their agenda.

I found one (used) in good shape for just $14.00. Ordered it last night. Roger is the one who brought this to my attention. Thanks again, Roger!

“After seeing work exploit and demolish the world, laziness seems like the mother of the virtues.”

This will be funny about 80 pages into The Great Frontier.

Mine is ordered I can’t wait to read it. On another note, I received my hand-held radios today. Well, two more of them anyway. That gives me seven.
