The stage is set

19 Sep

Well, after a week of transit, it looks like all of the actors are now on the scene.  The plate is set and the theater of operations is filled to the brim.  Tonight France, Britain, Saudi Arabia, the U.S., along with countries from as far apart as Estonia and New Zealand now have warships in the Strait. Hayat Alvi of the US Naval War College said,

“The de-mining efforts are clearly in preparation for a showdown with Iran.  Presumably in the context of either an Israeli strike targeting Iran’s nuclear facilities, or some provocation that leads to an Iranian response in the Persian Gulf region.”

When I wrote about this last week, these ships were in transit, and the Kenyan was ignoring Netanyahu in favor of Letterman and friends, as he campaigned for the right to continue the destruction of the United States.  He doesn’t need Iran’s help in doing that.

Since last week, somebody managed to blow up power lines to a nuclear enrichment plant, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates confiscated a number of items Iran sought for its nuclear program, and the Iranians dispatched their own Russian made submarine and a destroyer into the same waters.

30 countries participate in a naval exercise in the gulf (Reuters)

The arrival of the British forces rounds out a joint operation conducted by the navies of more than 30 countries to sweep the area – a major transit point  of maritime trade – clean of mines.  British Defense secretary, Philip Hammond said,

“The UK is committed to a standing presence in the Gulf to ensure freedom of navigation in international waters such as the Straits of Hormuz.”

Everybody knows what goof balls the Monkey’s in Iran are.  To have so much weaponry in such a confined area is just too conducive to having a mistaken event take place.

Personally, I do not see Israel passing up the opportunity to draw others into their strike on Iran.  They may not do it while the exercise is taking place this week, but they won’t let all of those warships depart and get too far away from the area before they do hit Iran.  To let them depart, and then suffer Iranian mining, would bring down the wrath of the whole world down on Israel.  The conclusion date of this exercise is unclear, however, we might have a window as short as four or five days from now.  Good luck.  Russia and China have been conspicuously silent.

They are just begging for Iran to do something stupid. They talk big, but I don’t think they are dumb enough to take the bait…

I think that you’re right about that. But will it be enough for Iran? Even if they put on skirts and apologized for being Mooslims, I don’t know if a war can be prevented.

Oh no, war won’t be prevented. There will be a USS Maine incident if need be, if Iran don’t take the bait.

What are you thinking?
